Official Opening of Phisontech Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd
Phison Electronics, the company that gave us the popular PenDrive, has now set up its R&D Centre in Penang, with the support of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).
Phisontech Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd, which is located at the NCIA Technology Development Centre (NTDC) in Bayan Lepas, was officially opened on 6th July 2012. The man who officiated the opening was none other than the Founder himself, Mr. Pua Khein-Seng (or now known as Dato’ Pua), who is now Chairman and CEO of Phisontech. The company was established in Taiwan back in the year 2000 as Phison Electronics Corporation, which developed the first USB flash controller, now an indispensible tool that is used in offices and households around the world. Under Pua’s leadership, Phison has become a global leader in controller technologies, which also include USB flash drives, flash memory cards, solid-state devices (SSDs), and embedded NAND Flash solutions.
The setup of Phisontech in Penang was announced by Pua back in March 2012. The Centre would undertake the design and development of flash memory applications and solution products.
Also present was Mr. Kiyoshi Kobayashi, President & CEO of Toshiba Semiconductors & Storage Products, who is Phison’s biggest customer.
Pua was born in Sekinchan (Selangor), but he has been based in Taiwan for the past 19 years. The setup of Phison in Malaysia is expected to greatly boost the country’s development by promoting transfer of technology and strengthening our electronics industry ecosystem.
